Checklist:
- The article title is intriguing and has visual impact.
- Strap-line under the article header explains the teaser, or adds further information designed to draw the reader in.
- Kicker has been used to hook the reader in. Denoted in larger or bold type-face.
- The introduction has drop caps - they are conventional to guide the reader to the start of the text (another ‘hooking in’ device)
- Try and use pull quotes to highlight phrases thought particularly appealing to the target audience.
- If images are used, use a caption for your reader.
- If you are using stock images can place the credits vertically near the gutter. (The space between the columns is called the gutter).
- Use sub headings
- Try and include a byline, a byline is the authors name, which usually follows the kicker
